This Stress Reduction Meditation is effective for everything from breaking old habits to achieving emotional balance to enhancing memory and brain function. Practitioners often experience increases in their intuition, creativity, and mental energy after practicing this meditation. This Stress Reduction Meditation is often called the SA TA NA MA meditation, and is more formally known as Kirtan Kriya. Kirtan Kriya was one of the first meditations taught by Yogi Bhajan after he came to the West in 1968. It remains today one of the foundations of practice for every Kundalini Yoga student.
The meditation involves the chanting of the primal sounds that signify the stages of life while touching different fingers together to form different mudras. The sounds are: SA, which means birth or infinity; TA, which means life or existence; NA, which means death or completion; and MA, which means rebirth or regeneration. The sounds are chanted out loud, in a whisper and silently while different fingers are touched. Touching the different fingers stimulates different areas of the brain. The combination of sounds and touch used in this meditation is highly stimulating and regenerating for the brain and induces a very relaxed state.
The meditation is easy to learn and comes with voice and mudra instructions. You can set the meditation for any length from one minute up to 200 minutes. As soon as you learn the simple instructions, you can close your eyes, leave the chimes on, and go deeply into meditation!
